Customers at Branston Golf and Country Club were left stuck in the car park for up to 30 minutes tonight, Wednesday, August 2. It came as travellers appeared to blocked the entrance to the site while staff at the venue attempted to stop them getting on to the car park.

Earlier this afternoon, travellers arrived at the country club, in Burton Road, Branston, and parked two caravans in the car park. Staff at the venue used a digger to block off the entrance to the car park in a bid to prevent any other caravans from entering the site and setting up camp.

At around 7.55pm this evening, the travellers, believed to be Irish, appeared to blocked the entrance to the car park.

One driver caught up in the incident told the Burton Mail that the atmosphere in the car park was one of 'panic' among drivers as people queued in their cars aiming to leave the site.

Staffordshire police were notified by drivers left stranded in the car park and quickly attended the scene.

The travellers then moved and cars were able to leave the car park.
