A miniature railway and the Staffordshire Yeomanry were among the variety of attractions at the Bladon House School fete and open day in July 1987.

The event attracted a good crowd despite the poor weather and managed to raise more than £1,500 for school funds. The open day featured the Staffordshire Yeomanry because of the Army’s past links with the school.

In past decades, the Army owned the land and building which houses the school and these links were set to be strengthened further through the presentation and dedication of a flag pole. Unfortunately, poor weather washed out some of the planned events, including a western show.

The performers decided it was too wet and dangerous to perform and so their costly scenery remained packed away in a trailer.

However, the rain failed to halt Burton Choir, who performed along with an 11-piece accordion group throughout the afternoon.
