A jobs fair held in Burton has proved to be a major success with 72 job seekers being offered an interview on the day - and one offered work.

The event, held in Burton's Market Hall, saw 40 companies attend including big names in the area such as JCB Academy, Foxes, the Hilton Hotel Group and the JI Group

The jobs and opportunities fair took place on Friday, September 8, and saw hundreds of jobseekers turn out in a bid to bag themselves their dream career.

The event bettered the outcome of a similar fair which took place in May, which saw 41 people offered work on the day and a further 100 given interviews.

Now it its third year, the event was partly organised by Jeanette Hines, employer advisor for the Department for Work and Pensions. She told of her delight at the outcome of the day, thanking the Burton's Market Hall for its support.

She said: "Seventy two people walked away on the day with an interview or an induction booked. We had 186 people hand in a CV or complete an application on the day. When you look at facts, it's a very positive result.

"I'm very pleased with the support on the day from the employers and the organisations. The day made a real difference to the job seekers who attended and we're lucky to have such great support from Burton Market Hall. It's such a vibrant job market to work in at the moment."

The event is organised by the East Staffordshire Worklessness Action Group, a collective partnership made up of Business Enterprise Support , East Staffordshire Borough Council , Burton Jobcentre Plus , Trent and Dove Housing , Orbit Housing , Burton and South Derbyshire College and Support Staffordshire .
