Every single pupil at a private school near Uttoxeter passed their maths GCSE exams. Fee-paying pupils today, Thursday, August 24, picked up the exam results after two years of hard work.

All 105 candidates passed International GCSE (IGCSE) maths exams, while 98 per cent passed IGCSE English.

As a private school, the college was able not to take up the government's new maths and English exams, whose grading system has been completely overhauled.

More than a quarter of all grades across all subjects were A*s and more than half were at least A. On average, pupils opening their envelopes today at the College Road school got 10 GCSE passes.

Oliver Bailey, Alice Copestick, Megan Dent and Nikhil Willis each attained 10 A*s and an A, while Roseanna Burton, Laurie Evans, Jess Harding, Morgan James and Oliver Rylance got all A*s.

Headmaster David Derbyshire said: "I am delighted by this set of results from a group of girls and boys who have worked hard throughout their GCSE courses.

"Teachers at Denstone have encouraged and motivated our students, and girls and boys have responded by achieving grades of which they can be justifiably proud.

"It is also particularly pleasing to see how so many of this year group have also been heavily involved in a range of extra curricular activities such as sports, music, drama and the Duke of Edinburgh Award while continuing to work hard for their GCSEs.

"I wish them every success as they embark on their A-level courses in September. Thank goodness we chose to take the more challenging IGCSE exams in maths and English. The national picture of the new grading structure for those subjects looks somewhat chaotic."
