A teenager from Ashby has spoken out after he became the victim of an attempted car jacking after being followed by two armed men.

The 19-year-old, who wishes to remain anonymous, said that he visited the Tesco superstore, in Ashby, after leaving his girlfriend's house. He said he went into the store to buy some juice, and then stood chatting with some of his friends.

When he returned to his car, he realised that a black Audi RS4 had parked in the space behind him, which made him feel uneasy as it was around 11.45pm and the car park was relatively empty.

He says that he saw two men wearing masks get out of the car and start walking towards him before realising that both of the men were carrying baseball bats.

He said: "I put my car into drive and they tried to smash my window with the bat. But, because I had started moving away they hit my rear passenger window but luckily it didn't break.

"They then both got back into their car and started to chase me. My car is only a little 1.4 litre Audi, so there was no chance I was going to be able to lose them. The traffic lights outside the supermarket were about to turn red, but I wasn't going to stop at the lights and let them catch up with me.

"I headed towards the high street, because it was a Saturday night and I knew there would probably be police around. I was just lucky that I stayed calm and was thinking straight when it happened."

The IT manager called Leicestershire Police who are now investigating the incident.

A spokesman from the police said: "We are investigating an attempted theft in Resolution Road on Saturday, August 12. No arrests have been made so far, and inquiries are ongoing."

After his ordeal, the 19-year-old now wants to warn other people about how to stay safe and avoid becoming a victim to a similar incident.

He said: "If you think someone might be following you, don't go straight home. If I'd have gone home, they would have definitely followed me. If you are suspicious, make sure to go somewhere public that is well lit to call someone."
