Two men who pretended they were interested in buying an Audi later stole the vehicle during a test drive after abandoning its owner by the roadside.

Derbyshire Police are now appealing for witnesses or anyone with information after a blue Audi S1 Quattro was stolen by two men, described as of Asian appearance, during a test drive in Newton Solney, on Tuesday, August 22.

Two men had initially called the owner asking to view the vehicle which was for sale in Repton. The three arranged to meet to take the vehicle for a test run.

They pulled into a layby in Burton Road, close to Newton Solney, and the men asked if they could check underneath the car. A spokesman for the police said the seller then got out of the vehicle and the two men sped off in it at speed towards Burton, leaving the owner behind. He was not injured.

The incident was reported to the police at 8.30pm.

The first man has been described as thick set, of Asian appearance, clean shaven with short dark hair, and aged about 25.

The second man is described as "skinny, but not weedy", also of Asian appearance, with a shaved head, a dark beard and aged about 23.

Anyone with information or may have been offered a blue Audi for sale is asked to call Derbyshire Police on 101, quoting crime reference number 17000360389, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
