Burton Albion Community Trust has been chosen to join forces with a South African based firm which manufactures hand tools and wheelbarrows.

Lasher Tools UK, the European arm of the company, is working alongside the award winning community trust (BACT), whch encourages community engagement within the East Staffordshire area with projects that need manpower and tools to complete, such as improving allotments.

Ian Livingston, commercial director at Lasher Tools UK, said: "BACT deliver programmes across five main themes: participation, social inclusion, disability, education and health.

"This is such a variety of programmes which helps all aspects of our local community. Additionally this allows them to have a wider impact both regionally and nationally.

"Lasher Tools UK as a business couldn't have thought of an organisation we felt more fitting to provide our range of tools and wheelbarrows to.

"With our staff not only living in East Staffordshire but also having children and grandchildren growing up in the area it was unanimous that this was the organisation we wished to give our backing to.

"BACT is an award-winning organisation that our business has had the privilege of partnering with. Our South African parent company is well known for its community engagement and this is something we have brought to our UK and European business based here in Burton.”

This summer the BACT team is again responsible for delivering the National Citizen Service (NCS) programme across East Staffordshire to more than 200 16 and 17-year-olds. NCS is a way for local youngsters to make friendships, learn new skills and to create memories over a four-week programme.

Working in teams of 15, the groups have all been busy out within the community of Burton and Uttoxeter, improving areas such as allotments, Burton's Queen’s Hospital grounds and local school’s community and vegetable gardens.
