A motorist escaped uninjured when their car caught fire on a busy roundabout in Uttoxeter. Police and fire crews were called to the eastbound A50 carriageway, near the Derby Road roundabout, at around 5pm.

According to police, the driver's Mazda 3's dashboard engine light had come on, so they pulled over. However, they then saw their vehicle catch fire at the roadside.

The carriageway was closed while emergency service crews extinguished the blaze and cleared debris from the scene. Heavy traffic travelling towards Derby was reported.

A Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: "We were called just after 5pm and the car was well alight when they arrived. The fire was dealt with by 5.34pm and the carriageway was closed by police."

A Staffordshire Police spokesman said: "We received a call just after 5pm and attended to find a car was on fire.

"The engine light came on and the driver pulled over before the vehicle caught fire. The road was cleared by 7pm."
