Shoppers have been left frustrated after finding that Morrisons in Swadlincote had run out of 5p carrier bags, leaving only bags, costing £1.50, said one angry shopper.

Sharon Sweet, 43, was shocked when she got to the tills in the supermarket and was told by the cashier that there were no 5p carrier bags available.

She said: "I just went into the shop to get a few bits. When I got to the till, the cashier told me that there were no 5p bags left.

"I normally bring bags with me, but I'd used them in another shop beforehand. I had to get one of those huge bags, and my car is only small and it fills the entire boot!

"I know it's not a cashiers' fault, but I think the managers should be letting people know."

One woman on Facebook claimed she had done an entire shop, and left the shop after being told there were no bags.

A charge was brought in for plastic bags in the UK in October 2015 to reduce waste. Supermarkets now collect the 5ps and that money has been donated to charity.

Morrisons today, Friday, September 22, assured customers that the 5p bags will be back in the store time for the weekend.

A spokesman from Morrisons said: "A delivery of carrier bags will be with the store tomorrow."
