Villagers are celebrating after a respected dignitary cut the ribbon to unveil brand new play and fitness equipment at their park.

The new equipment at the Silver Lane playing fields, in Marchington was officially opened by Colonel Chris Comport OBE.

The Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Staffordshire visited the park as part of the recent Marchington Village Festival.

Parish councillor Julia Hayhurst, who oversaw the project, said: “The upgrade had cost £20,000, which was raised from grants kindly given by the East Staffordshire Borough Council development fund and by the council winning the top grant via the Tesco Bags of Help scheme.”

Parish council chairman Ian Morgan said: “It’s so nice to see the new play and fitness equipment being used by the community.”
