The Makers Market in Swadlincote promises to be an extra special event this month as the last Saturday of the month in August falls on a Bank Holiday weekend.

Andy B Goode, who was very well received when he made an appearance earlier in the year, will be performing during the day, rock ‘n’ rolling the town with epic hits by perennial favourites such as Chuck Berry, Dean Martin and Elvis as well as more up-to-date numbers by Michael Buble.

Alongside the live entertainment will be arts, crafts, food and drink traders, makers and designers, giving everyone a chance to buy individual items not usually seen in a typical high street.

Stalls offering everything from locally produced wines and jams to handmade children’s clothes, knitted gifts and vintage memorabilia will sit alongside the traditional Saturday market.

Co-organised by Curly Magpie and Friends and Swadlincote Markets, the Makers Market takes place from 9am to 4pm on Saturday, August 26 in the High Street.

With free entry and free parking, it’s an ideal Bank Holiday destination.

South Derbyshire District Council Chairman Cllr Michael Stanton, who was at Curly Magpie and Friends to speak to organisers ahead of the big day, said: “The Makers Market is proving a popular addition to the South Derbyshire calendar. It is attracting lots of attention thanks to the high-quality and unique goods it offers.

"Supporting local businesses is a key aim of the Council and we hope people will come along and support traders from the area too."
