Residents in Woodville are being invited to attend a defibrillator training session to learn how the the machines could potentially save a life.

A new defibrillator has been installed outside the parish rooms, next to Woodville School, which can be used in the event of an emergency.

Sarah Harrison, 35, has raised the money to install the defibrillator, along with many others across South Derbyshire.

The kits cost £999 each, and Sarah has said she will continue to fund-raise until there are defibrillators in every village around the county.

The defibrillator was fitted outside Woodville Parish rooms earlier this year

She said: "They are the sort of thing you hope will never have to be used, but it's good to know that they are there if somebody does need it. It is important that as many people are trained to use the machines as possible. They could save a life."

Sarah's seven-year-old daughter Kyra has hypo-plastic left heart syndrome and has undergone more than 20 operations, including open heart surgery.

After being inspired by her daughter's health battles, Sarah decided to start fund-raising for a defibrillator and was shocked when supporters donated the money needed for the first machine in less than a week.

The defibrillator kits include both adult and child pads, which means that anybody can be treated, regardless of their age.

Training will take place at the parish council rooms, in Woodville, although a date has not yet been confirmed. For more information, contact parish clerk Andrea Robinson on 01283 551427.
