Both staff and students are celebrating at John Port School after announcing that their grades have significantly improved as compared to last year.

An incredibly impressive 30 per cent of grades achieved were either an A* or an A, compared to just 24 per cent in 2016. Also, impressively, 53 per cent achieved a grade B, A and A*, compared to the 47 per cent in 2016.

Almost 80 per cent of students received at least a grade C, compared to 73 per cent in 2016, rounding off what has been a massive improvement.

Acting head teacher, Phil Smith, has expressed his pride at what his students have achieved, and that he was proud of the students result. He also thanked the teachers who taught the A-level courses.

Sir Barry Day, the chairman of the interim academy board also commented on the fantastic results, saying that the board had a "relentless" focus on raising the academic standards at the school.

Three students achieved A*s in all of their subjects with a further 15 achieving A* and A grades in all of their subjects.
