The man who died following a crash on the A50 in South Derbyshire has been named as 39-year-old Christopher Scott, from Midway.

Mr Scott was driving a Renault car on Monday, July 10, when the vehicle collided with a barrier on the road at around 2.55pm on the eastbound carriageway of the dual carriageway between the junctions of the A6 for Derby and the A5132 for Swadlincote and Melbourne.

The Derby inquest into his death began yesterday, Tuesday, July 25, Derby and South Derbyshire Coroner Dr Robert Hunter said that the car overturned after the collision and ended up on the verge at the side of the main route.

He went on to explain that Mr Scott, of Chestnut Avenue, Midway, suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene.

He confirmed that the inquest would continue after further investigations had been completed.

Emergency services had been called to the incident between the second and third junctions on the eastbound carriageway of the A50.

The road was closed for roughly six and a half hours while officers from Derbyshire police carried out investigations at the scene of the crash.

The westbound carriageway was also closed for about an hour, allowing for an air ambulance to land. The road fully reopened at 9.30pm.
