A motorcyclist was taken to hospital following a collision with a car which closed off a road in South Derbyshire.

A Honda motorbike and a Seat Leon vehicle were involved in the incident, in Moira Road, Overseal. Derbyshire Police were alerted by East Midlands Ambulance Service to the scene at 5.50pm on Tuesday, August 22.

An eyewitness told the Burton Mail that the closure of the road was causing traffic problems and had been caused by a road traffic accident. Police and an ambulance were at the scene dealing with the incident and a police cordon was in place blocking off the road.

A spokesman for Derbyshire Police said: "We were called at 5.50pm to a collision between a motorbike and Seat Leon. The motorcyclist was taken to Royal Derby Hospital with minor injuries."

The road was reopened shortly afterwards. Meanwhile, during the same evening, drivers in South Derbyshire were also warned of a crash on Swarkestone Bridge which was causing long delays for drivers.

The A514 was closed in both directions between B587 and A5132 Barrow Lane. There is also congestion on A514 to Breach Lane and on B587 to Breach Lane. The incident happened at 4pm and involved three cars - a Skoda Octavia, Ford Scorpio, and a Renault Clio.

The bridge was closed at about 5.30pm and only reopened an hour later. A police spokesman said the collision had "done some minor damage to the bridge's brickwork".
