Unsung heroes across South Derbyshire will be given the chance of ultimate recognition for their hard work thanks to the launch of a brand new award.

People are being given the chance to say 'thank you' to the unsung heroes who do so much for their community. Nominations are now open for the South Derbyshire Community Awards.

Across South Derbyshire volunteers, charities and caring companies are doing wonderful things to make the local community a better place. If anyone knows someone who deserves an award, it’s time to give them the recognition they deserve.

South Derbyshire CVS, Swadlincote and District Chamber of Trade, Toyota Manufacturing (UK) and several other local businesses have come together to launch the awards.

There are three award categories for individual volunteers, which include Long Service, Unsung Hero and Young Volunteer of the Year, and three for groups which include Volunteer Team award, Local Charity/Community Group and Compassionate Company.

Anyone can make a nomination and the closing date is September 18. The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony on October 13.

Kerrie Fletcher, community development manager at South Derbyshire CVS, said: "We are excited to be working in partnership with local businesses to reward people in our district who make a difference. All we need now is for Burton Mail readers to nominate those people they think deserve recognition."

Nominations can be made by visiting www.sdcvs.org.uk/community-awards or calling the South Derbyshire CVS Development Team on 01283 219761.
