An unsupervised learner driver who decided to save his girlfriend the misery of walking in the rain in Swadlincote fell foul of the police.

Derby Roads Police were on the lookout when they spotted a Ford Focus vehicle whose driver turned out to be a learner and was driving while unsupervised on September 18.

The motorist was also driving without insurance.

A spokesman for Derby Roads Police posted details on its Twitter feed highlighting the offence.

The Tweet said: "Swadlincote. Decided to go out & pick up Girlfriend as it's raining. PLH unsupervised, no insurance. Expensive trip. #Seized"
