Vandals have ripped up planters along Swadlincote’s bus station before throwing them on the floor.

South Derbyshire District Council and Derbyshire Police received no reports of vandalism but photographs which appeared on social media alerted the authority, who then performed a clean-up operation.

The planters containing flowers had been discovered lying on the ground, with flowers strewn across the road.

A council spokesman said: “An incident at the bus park came to our attention at the weekend and we immediately performed a clean-up of the area.

“We work closely with the police and other partners to maintain low levels of antisocial behaviour in South Derbyshire as part of our ongoing efforts to keep the district clean, green and safe.

“Antisocial behaviour will not be tolerated and we would urge anyone who witnesses it to call police on 101 or, in an emergency, to dial 999.”
