You have been having your say after it was revealed that work will finally start on a pothole-riddled road dubbed the worst in Britain which will mean five weeks of delays.

Work will start on Monday, July 31, on a £500,000 project to repair the B5016 Station Road in Barton under Needwood after it made national headlines, with drivers saying the condition was so poor it was like driving on the surface of the moon and there were better roads in some of the poorest counties in the world.

The five-week scheme will see the road resurfaced, along with three roundabouts and slip roads on the A38. Kerbs and ironworks will also be replaced as part of the project, Staffordshire County Council has said.

Burton Mail readers have now taken to the Facebook page to express their delight at the work finally being started.

The potholes on the B5016 at Barton under Needwood after become famous for being so bad.

Lauren Kelly said: “Finally, finally, finally. No more roller-coaster ride over the roundabout.”

Sonia Gilbert said: “Thank God for that. I'll put out the bunting” and Anna Jane Warrington said: “Finally. It's actually painful driving around there.”

Sarah Gould said: “Hope they do a proper job or it will need doing again by Christmas.”

June King said: “I will believe it when I see it.”

Others have said it is “about time” work started on the road as they had waited long enough for it to be completed.

Jen Hardy said: “Well it's about time, it’s only took you 10 years” and Laura Lou added: “Everyone moans about the potholes, but everyone will moan about the roadworks and traffic.”

However, some readers have pointed out that other roads in Burton are also in desperate need of attention that the council needs to spend the money on.

Jonathan Fletcher said: “When you've finished on the moon, Jupiter wants doing in the rest of Burton and district” and Natalie Lawrence said: “That's all well and good but there are a lot more roads that need attention.”

Potholes on the B5016 at Barton under Needwood will be repaired soon

Saz Dyche said: “They seem to patch the same roads and ignore the ones that have been in need for years.”

The main resurfacing in Barton will start on Monday, August 14, and will need traffic management during the day and full night-time closures on different sections with signed diversions in place. Closures will be put in place between 7.30pm and 6am. The scheme is scheduled to be completed by Friday, September 1.
