A good Samaritan who helped a 14-year-old after she was pushed to the floor and mugged in Hartshorne is being asked to come forward.

Derbyshire police are now looking for the woman who helped the teenager after the victim contacted officers as she finally felt confident enough to come forward and speak about her ordeal.

She was walking along Woodville Road when a man approached her from behind, grabbed her arm and pushed her to the floor, she has told detectives.

He searched her pockets and took some small change, said police.

A woman passing by shouted at the man and pulled him away from the victim, allowing her to run away. Police now want to speak to the good Samaritan.

The mugger is described as 5ft 8ins tall, skinny and wearing a dark coloured hooded top and black jeans.

The incident happened at around 9pm on Saturday, April 15, but the victim has only just felt able to talk about what happened and report it to the police.

Investigating officer PC Ben Wildman said: “We’re pleased the victim in this case has found the confidence to come forward and report what must have been a frightening experience for her. We’re keen to speak to the Good Samaritan, who pulled the man away and allowed the victim to run off.

"This passer-by may be able to offer more of a description of the man which would help our inquiries to catch him.”

Witnesses or anyone with information is asked to call PC Wildman on 101, quoting reference 17000315243.
