Motorists are still facing heavy delays commuting in and out of Burton as roadworks continue to hold up traffic around the town.

Vehicles are still being held up in Derby Road near the Pirelli Stadium due to gas works but those who had been affected by road closures on the A444 at Linton Heath will be pleased to hear the four-way traffic lights have been taken down. However, roadworks have now moved onto Burton Road, in Overseal , where two-way traffic lights are now in place.

Traffic was backed up along Derby Road heading into town from 7am today, Thursday, June 29. It led to delays of at least 15 minutes and longer as the rush-hour began to take hold.

Cadent, formerly National Grid, is carrying out gas maintenance work and has the road dug up with temporary lights in place close to the BP garage. It is replacing old iron gas mains with more durable plastic pipes. This is due to continue until tomorrow, Friday, June 30.

Motorists hoping to use Newton Road, Newton Solney, will also be delayed by South Staffs Water which is repairing a service pipe and two-way traffic lights are in place. However, these are due to be removed today, on Thursday, June 29.

The A511 at Midway is still subjected to delays but roadworks are also due to end today.

On the A511, Cadent is also carrying out essential work in the road to connect properties to the gas network, to ensure residents can access energy from their chosen gas supplier.

Elsewhere in Burton and South Derbyshire, the slip road is closed on the A42 northbound at junction 13 with Ashby. It is due to reopen around July 14. This is as work begins at Flagstaff island.
