Uttoxeter's bollard is now back up and running after power cuts put it out of action less than a day after it returned from a three-year absence.

The post returned for the first time since 2014 on Tuesday, August 8, but a faulty cable on the circuit powering High Street meant the lighting system had to be reset.

This frustrated the town council officials who had worked tirelessly to bring the bollard back and agreed to pay the CCTV monitoring costs relinquished by East Staffordshire Borough Council three years ago.

Now town hall chiefs have confirmed maintenance firm ATG have come out and reset the lights - so High Street can no longer be used as a shortcut between 8am and 6pm.

Access to businesses is allowed from 8am to 10am and 4pm to 6pm, as is disabled access, but still requires motorists to identify themselves via an intercom next to the bollard.

If their explanation is accepted by an operative monitoring CCTV overlooking the post, it will be lowered to allow them access.
