A keen young farmer was part of an incredible effort that saw her and her teammates come second in a prestigious stock-judging contest.

Kate Mollatt, of Uttoxeter Junior National Farmers' Union (JNFU), was part of the group that came second in the contest at the Great Yorkshire Show.

They were competing against the top dairy stock-judgers in the country.

A JNFU spokesman said: "After judging a ring of four dairy cows and giving reasons to the Master Judge, Peter Cotton of Waterhouses Young Farmers' Club (YFC) came first in the junior section out of 29 other individuals.

"His team, consisting also of Kate Mollatt, of Uttoxeter JNFU, and Sammie Wilson, of Eccleshall YFC, came second out of 67 teams.

"This is a massive achievement again for Staffordshire YFC in this very popular competition.

"Peter is in his last year of membership as a junior and has also recently competed in the national finals those 17 and under, coming fourth, which, again, is a massive achievement."
