Police believe a woman who died on the A38 near Ripley may have taken her own life.

Officers from Derbyshire Constabulary issued an appeal wanting to speak to anyone who drove along the A38 on Thursday, August 3, between 10.30pm and 11pm after officers were called to a stretch of the southbound carriageway. When they arrived at the scene between Ripley and the Coxbench turn-off, officers found the body of a woman. Her identity has not yet been released.

Sergeant Scott Riley, from the police's collision investigation unit, has now said that they believe the 24-year-old woman may have taken her own life.

He said: "We appealed to the public last week to contact us with information and to provide any dash-cam footage that they may have.

"I would like to thank the public for their response to this as many people contacted us with useful information and dash-cam footage that has assisted us in our investigation."

The cause of the woman's death will be determined in an inquest.

Anyone with any more information is asked to call the Collision Investigations Unit on 101, quoting reference 17000332188.
