A slip road onto the M1 which has been closed for much of the day is set reopen soon. The road was shut after a lorry overturned, spilling debris onto the road.

The road, close to junction 24 of the M1 southbound, near East Midlands Airport was closed after two HGVs collided, leaving one on its side.

Fire crews, police officers and paramedics were all on the scene and one person was taken to Queen's Medical Centre, West Midlands Ambulance Service said. Their condition is currently unknown.

Leicestershire Fire and Rescue said that when crews arrived at the scene, a HGV was on its side and was leaking fuel.

A spokesman from Highways England said: "Because the HGV had overturned, debris was spilled all over the carriageway. There were delays as we tried to make the road safe, but the debris on the road turned out to be paper bales. These have now been removed and the road will open again soon."
