A 29-year-old motorist sparked a manhunt after he crashed his car into another vehicle in a Burton street before fleeing the scene.

Lauris Silins was eventually traced following the incident and it was later discovered he did not have a valid MoT certificate or insurance for the car.

Silins, of Blackpool Street, Burton, was later charged with failing to report the accident, failing to stop, and driving without insurance or an MoT certificate.

He did not attend North Staffordshire Justice Centre to plead so the case was proved in his absence.
The court heard that at 6.08pm on January 27 a crash occurred at the Walker Street junction with Anglesey Road, Burton.

Silins was driving a Volvo V50 along Walker Street towards the junction with Anglesey Road. At this time, travelling ahead of the defendant in the same direction, was a Toyota Auris. Silns crashed into the rear of the Toyota, causing damage and slight injury to the driver.

Silins then failed to stop and exchange details with the driver of the Toyota and also failed to report the matter to the police.

The driver of the Toyota did contact the police and enquiries followed, which resulted in Silins being traced and interviewed.

Further enquiries revealed that he did not have a valid test certificate for the vehicle and also did not have a certificate of insurance covering the use of the vehicle.

He has been fined £1,320 and ordered to pay £85 court costs and a £66 victim surcharge

His licence was endorsed with eight points.
