Church Broughton's Crowfoot Kennels dog rescue centre is to hold an open day and dog show to raise money to ensure the wellbeing of all pooches in its care, before staff find new loving homes for the pets.

The event will take place on Sunday, July 16, from 12pm until 4pm. There will be with food and drink, tombola, raffle and fun dog show classes to entertain the dog lovers present. Crowfoot Kennels, in Hay Lane, worked with the South Derbyshire District Council collecting stray dogs for the past six years, and set up its rescue centre two and a half years ago.

The organisation says will never put a healthy dog to sleep, with the rescue centre set up for this very reason.

Sunday's dog show is set to unite those who have already adopted dogs and those who have yet to do so, hopefully convincing those who have yet to adopt a dog to join those who have, said a spokesman.

The rescue centre is open to the public during the week by appointment only and Saturday and Sunday it opens between 11am until 3pm. Further information on adopting a dog or the open day can be accessed by contacting the kennels on 01283 585510.
