Missed that crucial bit of Burton Albion news you’ve been waiting for all day? Catch it all in today's Brewers digest...

Northern Ireland international Tom Flanagan has left Burton Albion. The versatile defender ended his two-year stay at the Pirelli Stadium on Wednesday evening, despite being offered a new contract.

The club statement reports that he had verbally agreed to those new terms, but has now decided to continue his future elsewhere.

It is not yet known whether Flanagan, who helped the club gain promotion to the Championship after joining in the summer of 2015, has received any other offers.

The decision has left boss Nigel Clough frustrated, despite the return of former club favourite Jake Buxton, the signing of veteran full back Stephen Warnock and the contract renewals of John Mousinho, Ben Turner and Shaun Barker in defence.

On the subject of Buxton, the Brewers' newest signing has said he is pleased to be back at the club where he tasted his first bit of success as a player.

Buxton signed a one-year deal with the Brewers on Wednesday, a move that brings him back to the club he joined from Mansfield Town in 2008.

"I've not got many regrets in football but it is something that, every year when I was away from here, they seemed to have success that you wanted to be part of," he said.

"The supporters, I think, are the luckiest supporters going because they've had success since 20 years ago."

Elsewhere, veteran striker Chris O’Grady has signed a two-year-deal with League Two club Chesterfield.

O’Grady spent last term on loan at Burton Albion and became the focal point of the club’s attack for the first half of last season.

Preston North End boss Simon Grayson has today been given permission to hold talks with Championship rivals Sunderland over their vacant managerial position.

The BBC is reporting that confirmation of the appointment is expected either later today or tomorrow - a month after current Brewers boss Nigel Clough was linked with the role when he became the bookmakers' favourite.

Finally, two of Albion’s fixtures next season have been rescheduled, with the home clash with Sheffield United moved to Friday November 17, kicking off at 7.45pm while the away visit to Neil Warnock’s Cardiff City has been moved to Friday March 30 (Good Friday) at 3pm.
