Burton Albion striker Marcus Dinanga has signed a new deal with the club that will keep him with the Brewers until June next year.

The club also hold an option to extend the forward's stay with Albion until June 2019.

"It's always good to get another contract and keep on developing as a player, especially at Burton Albion," Dinanga said.

"Obviously with Nigel Clough giving me another contract you can see that he's got a plan for the future and hopefully I get a chance this year or next."

Burton Albion manager Nigel Clough believes that Saturday's 1-0 defeat to Shrewsbury Town proved to be a good workout in the end for his Brewers players.

Clough has managed to take the positives from a bizarre pre-season friendly that saw forwards Marvin Sordell and Liam Boyce leave the field of play in the first-half, with Sordell red carded for a horror tackle on Shrews captain Abu Ogogo and Boyce stretchered off after appearing to land awkwardly while trying to bring down a high ball.

"It turned out to be a very good workout for us," Clough said post-match.

"As I said to the lads, it's guaranteed that one time this season, we'll be away from home, we'll be on the end of a decision, we'll be down to 10 men and then you've got to try to get a 0-0.

Burton Albion midfielder Joe Sbarra is reportedly being tracked by Southampton, according to the Sunday People via HITC Sport.

The report is claiming that Saints have been tracking the Brewers' 18-year-old midfielder after Albion boss Nigel Clough gave him his first-team debut against Reading on the final day of last season.

Sbarra signed his first professional contract last October, with that deal due to expire next June.

Burton Albion's players now know which numbers they will be wearing next season after the club announced the squad numbers for the 2017/18 season today.

The likes of new signings Matty Lund, Stephen Warnock, Jake Buxton, Hope Akpan and Luke Murphy will take to the Pirelli Stadium pitch Tuesday night bearing their squad numbers for the season complete with the new kit that was released last week.

Leicester City midfielder Wilfred Ndidi sees Tuesday night's pre-season friendly against Burton Albion as a chance to improve their form before the Premier League season kicks-off a week on Saturday.

The Foxes have looked sluggish in pre-season, with Craig Shakespeare's first summer in charge yielding only one win - against Luton Town - with a draw against Milton Keynes Dons sandwiched between defeats to Liverpool and Wolves.

“Everybody needs to be at their best," Ndidi told the Leicester Mercury.

“I have so many things to improve because as time goes we keep learning.
