Burton Albion defender Ryan Delaney helped loan side Cork City into the second round of Europa League qualifying last night with victory over Levadia Tallinn.

City carried a 2-0 lead into their second-leg clash with the Estonian outfit at Turners Cross - and Preston North End-bound striker Sean Maguire notched a superb hat-trick to make sure of their progress.

Not that it was completely plain sailing, with Evengi Kobzar firing home in the 15th minute to open the scoring on Thursday and halve the arrears for Tallinn.

Karl Sheppard headed home an equaliser for Cork to restore their two-goal advantage in the tie, only for Nikita Andreev's effort on the 30-minute mark to again cast Cork's progress into some doubt.

That would be the final time that Delaney and his fellow City defence would be breached, though.

And Maguire - who will be a Preston player for the 2017/18 campaign - then strode to the fore after the break, hitting three goals in the second half to secure John Caulfield's side a 4-2 win on the night a 6-2 triumph on aggregate.

AEK Larnaca of Cyprus are up next for Delaney, who has extended his loan deal away from the Pirelli Stadium until the end of the League of Ireland season in October.

The ex-Wexford Youths defender still has a year left on his current contract at Burton, with the option of another year.
