On loan Burton Albion defender Ryan Delaney has insisted that Cork City fancy their chances against AEK Larnaca ahead of their Europa League tie tonight.

Delaney and Cork face the Cypriots at 7:45pm after they dispatched Levadia Tallinn with ease, defeating them 6-2 on aggregate after a 4-2 home win last week.

The defender signed a temporary deal with the League of Ireland side last January - but opted to extend it last month untilt the end of the Irish domestic season in October.

Signed from Wexford Youths last summer for £20,000, he is yet to make a single league appearance for the Brewers and returned to his native Ireland in search of regular first-team football.

Delaney has been a big hit with Cork boss John Caufield, who was desperate to keep him at Turners Cross for the whole campaign after City surged to the top of the League of Ireland table.

Cork currently sit 12 points clear of second-placed Dundalk, and are so far making good progress in Europe.

And the 20-year-old is wary of the threat that they pose, and the influence that the strong Spanish contingent in the Larnaca could have on the tie ahead of tonight's first-leg at Turners Cross.

"You're obviously going to play a better team, Larnaca are a good quality team", Delaney told the Irish Sun.

"We've seen a few clips and they look good, they're a good passing team, they've a lot of Spaniards, it's going to be a big day for us, a tough ask.

"They're a good side but we are a good side and on our day, we fancy our chances."
