Hat-trick hero Jordan Atkin demolished Birmingham and West Midlands Ladies as Burton Albion cruised to a 4-1 win on Sunday.

The victory ensured that Brewers Ladies continued their perfect start to their first season in the FA WPL, with three wins out of three.

It was their first outing at Stafford Rangers' Marston Road, in front of 52 spectators, and it wasn't long before they got to see their first taste of the action.

Just two minutes in, Atkin raced through and stung the hands of the 'keeper before Paris O’Connor fired one from 30-yards-out, which smashed off the crossbar.

But the ball finally found its way into the back of the net on the 18 minute as Burton took the lead through Atkin.

Hayleigh Sutton played the ball over the top, which Atkin collected with ease as she made her way past helpless defenders before slotting past the goalkeeper.

They should have doubled their lead seconds later as O'Connor rose highest to Jemma Grimadell's in-swinging cross, but her header sailed over the bar.

Atkin turned provider for Burton’s second ten minutes after the restart. The striker played through Grimadell down the flank, who unleashed a shot, making no mistake as it rippled the top left corner.

Birmingham and West Midlands got one back through Annie Collins, who nodded it past Erica Turner.

Yet it wasn't long before the Brewers restored their two-goal advantage as Atkin got her second of the afternoon.

She battled for the ball in the air, ran through and rounded the keeper.

Down at the other end of the field, Gina Rushton got a crucial touch on the line to keep Birmingham and West Midlands at bay.

After a long period of stoppage as captain Charlotte Worth received treatment, both teams returned to the field of play for the final four minutes.

They capped off a fine display with a fourth goal, which completed Atkin's hat trick, as she bagged her fifth in three games.

"It was important that we put in a good performance after last week's cup loss at Middlesbrough," said manager Jack White.

"Today's win and three more points is pleasing and everyone is very proud of our current form."

The Brewers added to their squad in midweek ahead of the game, bringing in Demi Greenan from Nottingham Forest Ladies who made her debut in the win.

"Demi is a big signing for the club. Her experience and knowledge of the Premier League was there for all to see today.

"She was very eager to join Burton Albion and we're delighted to have signed her. She played well today and I'm excited to see what she can do for the team once she's settled in."

Despite victory, all thoughts after the game were with skipper Charlotte Worth, who suffered a neck injury in the latter stages of the game.

The manager praised the work of the staff, saying: "Charlotte's injury was very unfortunate and it's never nice to see an ambulance coming to a match.

"But thanks to the paramedics and staff of Birmingham and West Midlands Ladies and Stafford Rangers for all of their help.

"Charlotte is our captain and we hope that she makes a full recovery as soon as possible."
