AFC Telford United manager Rob Edwards was impressed by Burton Albion loan star Marcus Dinanga on his competitive debut this week.

The Brewers academy graduate played the full 90 minutes of Telford's 1-0 defeat to Curzon Ashton in the National League North on Monday, having previously featured for them as a trialist in pre-season.

Dinanga - who partnered Bucks' striker John Marsden in the forward line - has gone out for a season-long youth loan to further his development at Burton following an outstanding 2016/17 campaign in which he bagged 34 goals for Matlock Town.

And the early signs are promising that Dinanga can recreate that form in the second tier of non-league football this term, according to Edwards.

"If he gets a sight of goal, he is looking to pull the trigger - that's what strikers do," the Telford manager told the Shropshire Star of Dinanga.

"I thought his work rate was really good and I thought he was a threat, constantly, all night.

"I thought he was a real positive.

"We were two up with Marsden and Dinanga, and I thought they were a threat.

"With the change (that saw Matthew Barnes-Homer partner Dinanga late on), it's good to have another option, and Barnesy offers something different.

"It's good to have those different options."
