Burton Albion's response to the 5-0 humbling at Leeds United will be a good test of their mental toughness for the season ahead, says Nigel Clough.

The Brewers will not want to dwell on the defeat they were handed at Elland Road on Saturday, with another tough trip to Norwich City up next on Tuesday night.

Having been unbeaten for three games in all competitions before Saturday, Clough's side were picked apart by a ruthless Whites side, debutant Pierre-Michel Lasogga's fine double leading Thomas Christiansen's men to victory.

The defeat made it three straight losses on the road at the start of this league season for Albion - and they have shipped 11 goals in that time, albeit with two of those matches seeing them finish with 10 men on the pitch.

So many times last season, it was the Brewers' ability to bounce back from damaging setbacks that ultimately secured their Championship survival.

And Clough wants his players to move on quickly and focus on Tuesday's clash with the Canaries rather than dwelling for too long on the club's record second-tier defeat.

"It's finished, the game is finished - all we look at now is Norwich on Tuesday," said the Burton boss.

"What we said to the players last season and this season is that we are going to take results like that against us.

"We don't want too many, but you just have to get on, move on and get over it.

"There's no point us trying to analyse it - they were better than us, end of story.

"We can improve on certain things and we move onto Norwich.

"It's one game. It's three points we've lost today, it's one game out of 46."

A quick reaction to the Leeds defeat is even more important at this stage of the campaign, when games come so thick and fast.

After Norwich on Tuesday, Albion host Fulham on Saturday and then travel to Manchester United in the third round of the Carabao Cup four days later.

"That's where the mental toughness and strength comes in - we have to put it behind us straight away," added Clough.

"There's no point going to Norwich and feeling sorry for ourselves and having memories of this one.

"You now have to clear your mind and just get ready for a fresh one on Tuesday.

"It's the first one out of the seven games in 21 days. It's an incredibly tough programme for us, but we'll get on with it."
