Lucas Akins will start up front for Burton Albion as Nigel Clough opts for a 4-5-1/4-3-3 formation against Cardiff City in today's Championship opener at the Pirelli Stadium - and Albion have four new signings in their starting XI.

In a similar system to the one that worked so well in the first-half of Tuesday night's 2-1 win over former Premier League champions Leicester City, kins starts as the lone forward in the absence of the injured Liam Boyce.

Of the six summer signings, four new Brewers start with Hope Akpan left on the bench - possibly due to a lack of fitness as Nigel Clough alluded to in the build up to today's visit of the Bluebirds.

Jake Buxton, Stephen Warnock, Matty Lund and Luke Murphy have all been given their first start against former Brewers manager Neil Warnock's Cardiff.
