Nigel Clough reckons that combination from Joe Sbarra and Ben Fox for the second goal will give the Brewers' academy a boost

They did well, the youngsters especially. The second goal, for them to combine and make the goal. It’s lovely to get youngsters in. The cup gives you that option to get some youngsters in and they combined for the second goal which is great. it’ll give all our academy a boost as well, back in Burton.

The chances that we had tonight, the situations we should have been maybe three goals ahead and then maybe it wouldn’t have mattered.

Nigel Clough reacts to tonight's 2-1 win over Cardiff City

II thought it was a very good performance. The only thing we are disappointed with is is we ended up hanging on at the end, which in the first 75 minutes of the game didn’t deserve or didn’t warrant us to be hanging on.

Here's how the Brewers booked their spot in the next round of the Carabao Cup

You won't see me...

FULL-TIME!!!!

The Brewers go through to the third-round of the Carabao Cup after a 2-1 defeat of Championship table-toppers Cardiff City!

Goals from Tom Naylor and Ben Fox put Albion 2-0 up, but they had to withstand a raft of Cardiff attacks late on, with substitute Anthony Pilkington pulling one back for the hosts.

Stay tuned for Joshua Murray’s full-time verdict, and full match reaction from tonight’s terrific win.

90: Damour blazes over!

And I make that time...

90: Chance!

Cardiff float a ball in and Pilkington heads down to Ward, but he slices his effort off target!

90: Brewers withstanding any Cardiff pressure so far

There’s about three minutes left...

90: Brewers sub

Joe Sbarra - who has put in an absolute shift tonight - is replaced by steady hand of Luke Murphy.

90: Five minutes of added time

That’s galvanized the home fans, as you would expect.

90: The ball is bouncing around the Albion bx

But it lands at Ripley’s feet, with Tomlin the main architect of any Cardiff pressure...

89: Thankfully he's up and about

And the Cardiff pressure can continue...

88: McFadzean goes up for the header

And clatters Damour in the process - who is receiving medical attention.

86: CHANCE!

O’Keefe fires wide after a nice lay-off from Damour!

84: CHANCE!

It’s another Cardiff chance! Ward gets the ball inside the box from Tomlin but fires wide!

84: Get those fingernails ready

It’s coming towards the closing stages of the match, and the Brewers are defending for their lives.

82: CHANCE!

And it’s a big one as Pilkington fires towards goal from inside the box - but it’s blocked by his own man!
