Former Burton Albion striker Shaun Harrad has joined Evo-Stik Premier Division side Matlock Town ahead of the new season.

It means he could feature against the Brewers on Saturday, when they visit Causeway Lane for one of their pre-season friendlies.

Harrad signed for the Brewers under Nigel Clough in 2005 and helped the club into the Football League for the first time in their history in 2009.

He went on to help ensure Albion established themselves in League Two.

Harrad still holds the record for the most goals scored in a Football League season by a Brewer, with the 21 he notched in 2009/10.

In all, he played 248 times for Burton , scoring 75 goals, easily the longest spell with one club in his career, before leaving for Northampton Town in January 2011.

But he has been well travelled over the past five-and-a-half years since his Pirelli Stadium departure.

The Northampton spell amounted to only 18 games before spells with Bury, Rotherham United and Cheltenham Town.

Notts County, where his career had started, Alfreton Town, Wrexham and Torquay United all featured on his CV after that.

The 32-year-old, who has also now launched his own coaching business, has penned a one-year deal with Matlock.

The Gladiators will be hopeful he can have the same impact as a current Brewers striker did last term at Causeway Lane.

Marcus Dinanga – who found the net for the first time this pre-season in Friday’s 4-0 win at Mickleover Sports – spent last season on loan with Matlock and bagged 24 goals in the League alone, going on to win the Evo-Stik Premier Division young player of the year award.
