Leeds United boss Thomas Christiansen is in the running for August's Sky Bet Championship manager of the month award ahead of his side's clash with Burton Albion on Saturday.

Christiansen took over from Garry Monk in the summer following the latter's move to Middlesbrough - and the new Whites head coach has taken little time to make his mark.

Leeds currently sit third in the table with 11 points as Albion prepare to visit Elland Road at the weekend, with away victories over Nottingham Forest and Sunderland among the highlights for Christiansen's men so far.

Leeds United celebrate on their way to a 2-0 victory at Nottingham Forest

They are one of only two sides - with table-topping Cardiff City the others - to be unbeaten after five Championship games this term.

Cardiff's Neil Warnock is also nominated for the award after leading the Bluebirds to a perfect start in August.

The ex-Brewers boss oversaw five wins from five for his side, who began that run with a 1-0 victory at the Pirelli Stadium, courtesy of Kenneth Zohore's 87th-minute winner.

Ipswich Town's Mick McCarthy and Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Nuno Espirito Santo are the other two up for the first monthly prize of the season.

McCarthy's Ipswich sit between Cardiff and Leeds after five games, having won four of their outings so far, while Wolves sit fourth with 10 points to their name.

Cardiff winger Nathaniel Mendez-Laing - impressive off the bench against Burton in the league - is up for the player of the month award, alongside Ipswich striker Martyn Waghorn, Billy Sharp of Sheffield United and Preston North End defender Darnell Fisher.
