Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba is expected to be ruled out for the Red Devils' Carabao Cup tie with Burton Albion on Wednesday night after he picked up a hamstring injury in their 3-0 Champions League win against FC Basel on Tuesday night.

The one-time world's most expensive player - signed for around £89 million from Italian side Juventus last summer - is set for a six-week spell on the sidelines after picking up the first-half injury.

The Brewers earned their third-round trip to Old Trafford following last month's 2-1 win over Cardiff City, and Albion fans can expect to see a number of first-team players line-up for United next week.

Boss Jose Mourinho, a four-time winner of the competition, fielded a relatively strong side in their third-round tie against Northampton Town last term - with the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Ander Herrera, Michael Carrick and Marcus Rashford all featuring for the holders.

Albion head to the Theatre of Dreams a very different side to the one that went there in that famous January night - where over 10,000 Brewers fans descended on Manchester and a helicopter was assigned to follow Burton's team bus.

This time, only 22 places separate them in the football league apposed to 104, and the gulf in class is still there - but one man who is expected to be absent from next week's tie has been one of the most influential in the early stages of the Premier League so far.

Pogba, only 12 years old at the time of the tie that has come to define Burton's season, has notched two goals and two assists in the league so far for United - and will be missed during the time he is to spend on the sidelines.

Mourinho said after the Basel match he believes that the 24-year-old will be out for a "few weeks" - meaning he is almost certain to miss the Brewers' visit.

"I don't know. I just know from experience it's a muscular injury. In my experience, muscular injury stops you from playing for a few weeks, I think," he told the club's website .

"It looks for me too [like a hamstring injury] but I haven't spoken yet to the medical department.

"Squads are for this, squads are for injuries, squads are for suspensions. We don't cry with injuries. So if no Paul for Sunday, we have Herrera, we have Carrick, we have Fellaini and we have Matic."
