Burton Albion head north to Boundary Park tonight in their first taste of Carabao Cup action against Oldham Athletic, and we'll have live match action and reaction to tonight's knockout clash (7:45pm).

As fate would have it, Albion's new goalkeeper Connor Ripley is set to make his first appearance in a Brewers shirt against the side whose clean sheet record (19) he equalled while on loan from Middlesbrough last term.

Nigel Clough's side have been busy in the market this week, with Ripley's signature followed by defender Tom Flanagan's surprise return to the Pirelli Stadum earlier this afternoon.

In a move that came completely out of the blue, Flanagan now looks set for a return to that right-back berth he has been used to since signing from MK Dons two years ago.

Could Tom Flanagan's return in a Brewers shirt come as soon as tonight?

But despite a busy week in the Pirelli's negotiating room, there is still a match to be played, and we will bring you every kick of tonight's first-round Carabao Cup match, as well as all the reaction.

Signing off from tonight's blog

That’s your lot from tonight’s live coverage of Oldham Athletic 2-3 Burton Albion.

Much more reaction to come tomorrow - but for now I’m going for a lie down...

Clough's verdict

Nigel Clough was impressed with this young duo for his Burton Albion side in victory tonight - and you can see why with a couple of impressive performances under their belt.

Here’s the manager’s verdict on a thriller at Boundary Park...

Matty Palmer is the man we have been talking to

It's all suddenly got a bit eerie now at Boundary Park

Think a few Rochdale fans would have liked former Dale man Matty Lund bagging against Oldham tonight

Worth noting that the draw will be taking place tomorrow

Burton could draw one of 13 Premier League teams...

Joshua Murray's verdict from a pulsating night at Boundary Park

It’s hard to know where to start...

Stay tuned for Joshua Murray's match report of a breathless encounter at Boundary Park

Thankfully for some (the press) - you won’t have to wait until after extra time for it...

The Albion players applaud the travelling fans

They’ve really put a shift in that second-half - and they’re being duly applauded.

FULL-TIME! Brewers win 3-2!

It’s all over here following a breathtaking second-half at Boundary Park!

Second-half goals from Luke Varney, Matty Lund and an 86th-minute Lucas Akins penalty sends Albion through to the second-round of the Carabao Cup.

90: It's carnage in the Burton box

It’s pinball in there - and it is eventually cleared!

90: Akins tries his best to obstruct Amadi-Holloway

But referee Duncan is wise to his antics and gives a free-kick and Akins a yellow card.

90: Ben Fox tries to race clear as the Brewers clear the corner

And he is pulled back and it’s an Albion free-kick - some of the Oldham natives have seen enough.

90: Corner to Oldham!

Let’s see what the Brewers defense is made of!

90: Final Oldham sub

Ousmane Fane comes off to applause and is replaced by Mason Fawns.

90: Here comes the Oldham onslaught

Long balls towards the Brewers area is now the Oldham agenda - and they’re being dealt with so far.

90: We have played 90 minutes here at Boundary Park

Five added minutes here at Oldham...

90: Albion want to kill the game off

But Ben Fox’s shot is straight at Wilson...

89: What a second-half those inside Boundary Park have been treated to!

Five second-half goals and a late penalty see Burton lead Oldham 3-2!

88: Brewers sub

Mousinho is replaced by Jackson Irvine.

86: GOAL!!!!!

Akins send Wilson the wrong way this time!Akins send Wilson the wrong way this time!

A body blow to Oldham - the Latics fans are convinced referee Scott Duncan has got the decision wrong - but that won’t matter to the travelling Albion fans behind the goal to our left!

85: PENALTY BREWERS

McCrory is brought down! Penalty Brewers!

84: Brewers sub

Varney is replaced by Marvin Sordell

83: McLaughlin crosses

But it sails through the Albion box and out to Odabeyi on the wing - and his effort isn’t much better, sailing into the hands of Ripley.

82: Mousinho hits an effort

But it’s a tame effort and it’s easily saved by Wilson.

81: Brewers looking for an opening here

AKins finds himself with the ball at his feet in the box - but he can’t get it out of his feet and his eventual shot is easily blocked...

78: Sbarra goes down!

But no pen given by referee Scott Duncan. Wilson was rushing to dive on the ball and it looked like Sbarra got their first and was clipped - but how much contact there was we can’t tell from here...

77: Lund aims a long ball at Varney

But the sub gets the ball nowhere near the striker...

75: Oldham sub

Dummigan is replaced by Tope Obadeyi.
