Reading manager Jaap Stam has identified Newcastle United goalkeeper Karl Darlow as a possible replacement if Ali Al-Habsi departs the club.

Stam has told the Omani stopper - Reading's two-time player of the year - that he can leave the club to be closer to his family, after the 35-year-old was linked to Saudi Arabia's Al-Hilal.

"There is Darlow" said Stam, when asked about a possible replacement for Al-Habsi.

"We have to look at if we can afford the fees and the wages."

Middlesbrough are set to increase their interest in Derby County's Cyrus Christie, according to the Gazette.

Boro missed out on Reading's Chris Gunter despite activating a £1 million release clause in his contract with the Royals.

Gunter opted instead to stay with last season's play-off finalists and signed a three-year deal at the Madjeski on Wednesday, and Garry Monk's Boro could now turn their attentions to Christie.

Christie could be made available by Rams boss Gary Rowett after the Pride Park side signed Andre Wisdom earlier this week.

Scott Malone became Huddersfield Town's latest signing last night ahead of their assault on the Premier League.

The former Burton Albion loanee has cost Town around £3 million - but that could rise to as high as £5 million - and is the newly-promoted Terriers' sixth signing of a busy summer.

Malone has put pen to paper on a three-year deal, after the former Fulham man's standout campaign resulted in him being named in the PFA and EFL Championship teams of the year.

Huddersfield have added Malone to their squad for next season alongside the likes of Tom Ince, Danny Williams and Steve Mounie, all of whom were signed this week.

Nottingham Forest are believed to be close to the signing of Liverpool goalkeeper Adam Bogdan, according to the Nottingham Post.

Talks are expected to be held with the player over the next few days, with Liverpool allowing the stopper to leave on loan.

The 29-year-old has struggled to hold down a regular starting place at Anfield since signing in the summer of 2015 on a free transfer from Bolton Wanderers.

Bogdan would add experience to the Forest rearguard - having featured in more than 100 games for Bolton during his seven-year spell there.
