Sunderland are reportedly chasing a trio of new signings as the transfer window edges near to its close - including Aston Villa forward Ross McCormack.

The Black Cats tasted their first defeat of the Championship season on Saturday as they went down 2-0 to Leeds United at the Stadium of Light.

And ex-Leeds striker McCormack - who has also been linked with a possible return to Elland Road this summer - is one of three players on Sunderland's priority list ahead of September 1, according to the Northern Echo .

West Ham United midfielder Robert Snodgrass - who played under current Sunderland boss Simon Grayson at Leeds - and Grant Leadbitter of Middlesbrough are also being linked with moves to the Stadium of Light, with Snodgrass not in the Hammers' squad this weekend and Leadbitter having featured only once this term for Boro.

Elsewhere, Harry Redknapp's push for more new faces at Birmingham City has seen the Blues linked with Huddersfield Town striker Nahki Wells.

Birmingham were beaten 2-1 by Burton Albion on Friday night and Redknapp did not hold back after the defeat , claiming that 'what I need is to change a lot of them because that's not good enough'.

Wells could be an option for the Blues, with reports linking a possible move for the ex-Bradford City man.

But other clubs are said to be interested, including Leeds and Wolverhampton Wanderers.
