A SANDWICH and buffet provider in East Staffordshire has been given a four-star food hygiene rating following an inspection by the borough council's environmental health team.

The Gourmet Lunch Company, based in Barton under Needwood, was given some pointers on where improvements could be made in order for it to receive a top score on its next inspection. The team noted that salad was being stored in the fridge being stored directly on top of raw bacon.

The report stated: "In order to prevent cross contamination, raw meat must be stored separate from ready to eat foods at all times. On my second visit the bacon had been moved to a separate fridge."

Other minor issues were raised, including a lack of paper hand towels in the kitchen, but it was noted that this had also been completed following a return visit.
