A top-notch classical singer is returning to her home town to pass on her expertise to youngsters aspiring to take to the stage.

Maisy Hepburn left Thomas Alleyne's High School at 15 to take up a scholarship at Chetham's School of Music, in Manchester.

Now 21, Miss Hepburn still studies her art at the Royal Northern College of Music. Between her two scholarships, she also learned from scholars at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.

From Monday to Friday, August 14 to 18, Miss Hepburn will take up residence at Uttoxeter Town Hall for a week-long workshop culminating in a theatrical performance for parents to watch on the Friday.

She said: "My summer school is a 'put back into the community event' for youngsters aged seven-to-15.

"In the week I will be teaching the children all about stagecraft, vocal technique, dramatic technique and ultimately this will cultivate a theatrical performance for parents on the Friday afternoon.

"The week should be good fun ultimately and it should offer Uttoxeter's young people a thoroughly professional experience on their doorstep. When I was younger, this just wasn't available."

The workshops, some of which will be taken by guest industry professionals, will cost £125 per child for the week.

However, Miss Hepburn says she is open to lowering that price for children from struggling families who have a flair for performing arts.
