A scaled-down triathlon will provide motivation to stay fit this summer, organisers have said. The Go Tri Aquathlon is an accessible version of the gruelling run, swim and cycle race which has made English twins Jonathan and Alistair Brownlee famous.

It takes place at Uttoxeter Leisure Centre on Sunday, September 10. Entrants will tackle a 400m swim in the leisure centre pool and a 5km run around the adjoining Bramshall Road Park.

Junior and family versions will again scale down the challenge to suit all ages and abilities.

A spokesman for East Staffordshire Borough Council, which runs the leisure centre, said: “With Summer in full swing, signing up to the Aquathlon events is the perfect motivation to stay active.

“Having something to train for makes it much easier to get out of bed and hit the gym instead of the snooze button. “Swimming and running are both fantastic ways to burn fat and add on lean muscle so why not combine the two?”

Entry costs £8 for those aged 14 and above, £5 for those aged nine to 13 and £5.50 per head for families.

Spaces are limited and bookings can be made by going online here and heading to the relevant leisure centre page.
