The new Burton Folk Club opens its doors on Friday, September 1 with a season of ear-catching acts. Formerly Brewtown Folk Club, based at the Old Cottage Tavern, the new club has moved to the Beacon Hotel, in Tutbury Road, Burton, continuing a tradition of folk clubs in the town stretching back more than 50 years.

The opening concert features Granny's Attic with Cohen Braithwaite-Kilcoyne (melodeon, concertina and vocals), George Sansome (guitar and vocals) and Lewis Wood (fiddle, mandolin and vocals).

All are exceptional musicians as well as fine singers and perform a range of English, Irish and Scottish traditional music, along with their own compositions, with verve, energy and their own inimitable style.

Formed in 2009, Granny's Attic has since played at clubs and festivals up and down the country, and have been heralded for their lively performances and maturity beyond their years in their delivery and selection of traditional songs.

Their talent was recognised when they were nominated for the BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award in 2014. For more information and live concert footage go to www.grannysattic.org.uk

The Beacon Hotel is situated on the junction of Tutbury Road and Harehedge Lane, in Horninglow, with plenty of parking. Doors open at 7.30pm for an 8pm start with admission on the door, priced £8.
