A highly-original musical duo who have been described as “Hell’s Angels meets the Amish” are set to rock out at a top music pub near Uttoxeter.

Hymn for Her will be the next top act to perform at the Dog and Partridge’s heralded Sunday Sessions on July 16 from around 5pm.

The band have been busy touring across their native United States of America and abroad for the last few years, plying their own brand of “back-woods country blues with a dose of desert-rock psychedelia”.

Media outlets have described the pair as “hillbillies with electronics opening Pandora’s Box”.

Last summer, they toured Europe and the UK, returning to the states in August to promote their album, Drive Til U Die.

The LP was recorded partially in their Bambi Airstream sports utility vehicle, giving it, quite literally, an on-the-road feel.

Now Hymn for Her are again touring the UK and mainland Europe to promote the album – and will drop into the Dog as part of that tour.

A statement from their management reads: “The duo certainly covers a lot of musical territory. Their wild-eyed mash-up of country, blues and punk led UK music critic Steve Bennett to call Hymn for Her’s sound ‘a riotous, rocking roadkill stew’, while others have referenced such diverse bands as Captain Beefheart, Primus, X, RL Burnside, JS Blues Explosion and the Ramones.

“Impressively, the two create their ‘ripsaw sounds’, as the Los Angeles Times’ Randy Lewis described them, with only a few instruments.

“Wayne, with the devilish voice, mainly playing the kick-drum, high-hat, acoustic guitar and harp, serves as the group’s rhythmic driving force. Lucy, of the fallen-angel voice, delivers a gritty squall on her ‘Lowebow’ — a custom-made cigar-box guitar.”
