Scores of reality TV fans will be hoping they are “100 per cent his type on paper” when a star of Love Island comes to town.

Millions of viewers have been glued to the ITV2 show for the last month to watch its swimming costume-clad, perfectly toned contestants strut around their Spanish villa.

Now they will get the chance to meet one of the programme’s most jovial characters when Sam Gowland visits two East Staffordshire nightclubs.

The oil rig worker from Middlesbrough has seen his public profile go through the roof since appearing on Love Island and now boasts 73,000 Twitter followers.

Sam, 21, was ultimately “pied off”, as the show’s unique dialect would put it, when he failed to find love and was voted out of the villa.

But the joke-cracking smoggy will doubtless be hoping he finds the girl of his dreams at Society and Manhattans.

He came top in a poll gauging which contestant the clubs’ regulars would most like to meet.

Pete Terry, owner of the Uttoxeter and Burton clubs, said: “Over the last fortnight as a company we have taken to social media and asked people who them would like to see from Love Island in our venues.

“The clear winner was Sam. Describing himself as a ‘self-confessed cheater’, we are assuming this is because people love a bad guy.

“We love to bring people extra and this will be the first of many planned appearances.

“We would ask our customers if they would like us to bring a certain celebrity to town to let us know and we will do our best to achieve it. He will feature at our new Burton venue on Friday, August 11 and at our venue in Uttoxeter on Saturday, July 29.

“His no-nonsense attitude towards winning at any cost is what we like about him. That quality coming from a man who is also known as a ‘competitive serial dater’ is going to make for a great night.”

We tried to find out what Sam thought about his impending visits to East Staffordshire.

But his representatives at Misfits Celebrity Management said the interview offered to Sam was “not of interest”.

Love Island sees young men and women thrown into a luxury villa in Spain and invited to “couple up”. There are periodic “re-couplings”, which often leave one contestant isolated and forced to leave.

The winning couple, ultimately decided by public vote, will take home a reported £50,000 and enjoy a host of commercial endorsement opportunities.

Mr Terry recently took over Fever, in High Street, Burton, and will be transforming it into the town's branch of Society and Manhattans in the coming weeks.
