Uttoxeter is set to welcome back a popular band that oozes 1970s punk appeal in spades. Vomit have played the Old Star, in Queen Street, on many occasions, including at its many punk one-day mini-festivals.

The delightfully-named act play music reminiscent of the bands that spearheaded the UK punk scene 40 years ago. They list The Clash, The Damned, Sex Pistols and The Ruts among their long line of influences.

However, unlike many who echo the style of the era, they are actually the genuine article. The band's journey to the Star has been a long one - and started way back in 1977. And now they are promoting their new record, Punk Generation.

Band member "Lee C" said: "Vomit started in 1977 when Marsh and I had the same interest in punk rock, so we thought we can do that and started to write a few songs.

"We used to go to Congleton youth centre at Eaton Bank school and play loads of punk on their record player, with all the other kids saying 'whats this rubbish?', but two lads who were interested were Steve and Gez Austin, so we said 'lets start a band'.

"We started to practise in a room at the youth centre with one amp, bins for drums and the singer just shouting, but we were off - it was Congletons first punk band.

"Soon we had more amps and Stevo got his first drum kit, so we practised for while doing some very easy punk classics. Next we thought we would do a gig.

"The first gig was at The Duke of Wellington in Congleton, which is now a nursing home, but the night before the gig the landlord phoned me up and said 'you are not playing at my pub, you have put Vomit all over the toilet walls'.

"We had written 'Vomit' all over the town, so after a few 'sorrys' and Marsh and I painting the toilet walls, the gig went ahead."

The band's iconic name has changed a few times down the years, to Teenage Hell and The End. Vomit will perform at the Old Star on Saturday, August 12, from around 9pm. Entry to the gig is free of charge.
