A charity working to relieve and prevent poverty in East Staffordshire is running a pop-up shop in Burton.

The Love Inspire Foundation, which was started by Monica Dunbar as a crisis prevention centre after she noticed that families were struggling to buy school uniforms, now has a pop-up shop in The Octagon shopping centre, next door to the Iceland store.

And the charity shop had customers queuing for bargains on its opening day with most items selling for £1. The unit is open from Monday to Sunday, from 10am to 4pm.

Those needing school uniform and smart clothes for interviews can access them via the shop. The charity is also appealing to members of the public to donate new children's rucksacks and stationery including pencil cases, pens, pencils and rulers that will be then given to families in need in the area.

The shop is raising funds for the Love Inspire Foundation which helps people across East Staffordshire and South Derbyshire.

Mrs Dunbar said: "Our thanks to the Octagon shopping centre, in particular Peter Hardingham (shopping centre general manager), for giving the charity the opportunity to raise awareness of the crisis prevention centre.

"Several families and two homeless individuals have already accessed the unit and received support from our services. A huge thank you to the community, both volunteers and customers, for their continued support."
